We all want bigger houses, bigger rooms, and just more space to put stuff! While getting a bigger house may not be realistic right now, check out these interior design tips for on how to make a small bedroom look bigger.
Paint the room a lighter color
Light colors reflect the light better making the room seem brighter and larger. Stay away from dark colors in small spaces.
Use appropriate sized and minimal furniture
The more furniture in a room and the bigger the pieces, the smaller it can look. Be creative and buy furniture that also has storage. For example, there are bed frames that have storage drawers on the bottom.
Mirrors are the easiest way to trick the eye and make a space look bigger. A full length mirror is always useful in a bedroom but other decor mirrors hung on the wall will instantly make the space larger.
Hang light colored drapes
Just like light paint helps, the same goes for the curtains. Even better, use curtains the same color as the walls. When they are the same color, it allows the eye to continue moving across the room opposed to breaking the wall up.
Hang your drapes as high as possible
Hanging the rod as high as you can to the ceiling draws people’s eyes to the ceiling. This gives the illusion of higher ceilings which means more space.
Organize your room and keep it clutter free
The more junk in any space can make it feel smaller. If a room is already small, get rid of the excess knickknacks, toys, and furniture.
You may not have much floor space, but you do have wall space. Use floor to ceiling built-ins or tall bookshelves to draw the eye up. It also provides plenty of storage. Paint the built-ins the same color as the wall to help make the room seem even larger.
Use sconces by the bed instead of table lamps
This helps to reduce clutter on end tables. Hanging them slightly above a headboard also draws the eye upward.
